A DataCite consortium is a group of like-minded organizations that have come together to collectively participate in DataCite’s community and governance activities and use DataCite’s DOI services. Consortia are generally located in a single country or subject-based. Ιn EUDAT we follow the subject-based concortia. Organizations within a consortium can work with one or more repositories.

EUDAT DataCite consortium member responsibilities#

Αs a member of the EUDAT DataCite consortium you :

  • are allowed to manage one or more repositories on request
  • may allocate 1 or more DOI Prefixes and register a number of DOIs . It should be noted here that Organisations registering more than 10.000 DOIs on annual basis should be a direct member

EUDAT DataCite consortium support team responsibilities#

The role of the EUDAT support team:

  • Act as the first line of contact for the consortium for both DataCite and the consortium organizations for both administrative and technical issues
  • As new organizations join the consortium, take responsibility for onboarding. The onboarded process is described here
  • Provide relevant resources to assist new and existing consortium organizations in the local language if appropriate
  • Understand and share DataCite’s Terms and Conditions with the Consortium Organizations
  • Work with DataCite to establish accounts for organizations both in test and production systems
  • Prefix assignment in the DOI Fabrica System for each organization within a consortium.
  • Take responsibility for the transfer of DOIs when an organization leaves the consortium.
  • Monitor the consortium and keep track of new repositories being added

EUDAT DataCite consortium responsibilities#

A member of the EUDAT DataCite consortium should follow the DataCite rule and should

  • demonstrate an elevated level of commitment to open-data and open research
  • become part of a global data-sharing community, learning, collaborating, and advocating with a leading-edge network of data research experts
  • play a critical role in advancing DataCite’s data-sharing mission
  • providing a way for users to assign Digital Object Identifiers within the best practice guidelines

Rules / Policies#

Some of the main rules are 

  • Consortium Organization Accounts that are inactive for more than a year will be deleted 
  • Repository accounts that are no longer in use will deleted 
  • Organisations registering more than 10.000 DOIs on annual basis should be a direct member.
